Whip-It

Whip-It

The whip-it is a puzzle that dates back to the 1980s. Along with the barrel, pyraminx and cube, this is one of the puzzles that brings back memories of that time. You slide the tiles along the columns and turn (or whip) the puzzle around the 3 rows.

It's pretty easy to solve without having to think a great deal about any specific method. I start from one end and work my way up the columns. When there are as few moving pieces as there are on the puzzle in the photo, it doesn't take too long to solve. It is something that people who struggle to follow a cube method can usually do though.

There are a few of this type of thing being made these days - Meffert's sometimes has them in stock but they are different. This one was a bargain from ebay. There are lots of variations on this. Some with cubes and chain links on, some with more tiles.
